35mm Camera Requirements for Photo 1
A fully-manual 35mm SLR film camera (like the Pentax K1000 pictured here) is REQUIRED for all Photo 1 courses at Ballard. Please keep in mind that you are buying a FILM camera, not a digital one, for this beginner course. The camera should have an interchangeable lens (one you can take off the body of the camera) and have manual functions (the photographer is in control of all aperture and/or shutter functions). Generally speaking, you should make sure the camera has a 50mm lens but other lenses would work just as well depending on the specifications. Also, make sure the camera has a functional light meter with a new battery as well as a lens cap. Look for brands such as Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Minolta, and Olympus (avoid VIVITAR and PROMASTER, as they are cheaply made and easily broken).
